Good afternoon, Purposeful Hearts! Today’s post is another getting-to-know-me look into my mission and goals behind starting The Purposeful Heart. What’s behind my mission, you ask? You are.
I care deeply about how you’re doing while swimming in the midst of a world of constant questions and uncertainty: Why am I here? Who am I supposed to be? Am I in the right place and doing the right thing? I get it. Those are powerful questions, and unless we feel like we have satisfactory and sustainable answers to those questions, we wander in a state of overwhelm. If you’re struggling with any of those questions, let’s talk about where to turn for answers.
First, identity is hard right now. Please know that you’re not alone in wading through the muck of self-discovery, longing for a clear-as-day sign of who you are and what you’re supposed to make of your life. You don’t have to look very hard to find evidence of society at large craving identity, attention, validation, and affirmation in subtle and dramatic ways. But that’s why identity is hard right now! Collectively, we’re lost and looking to each other for the map.
Lift your eyes, dear Purposeful Heart! Stop looking across the horizon for this world to define and affirm you. God already did that. Your loving, heavenly Father knew you before you were even born (see Psalm 139) and knows every hair on your head (see Matthew 10:29-31). He sent his Son to die for you. Did you even realize you were the focus of such intimate, personal attention? If God makes it a priority to know these aspects of your identity, he certainly knows the exact purposes for which he created you and redeemed you. Your identity? You are a loved, redeemed, supremely crafted vessel that God desires to use in this world to bless and sustain those around you.
Second, I care about how you’re handling the emotional and psychological stresses of shouldering these big questions while balancing the logistics of everyday life: errands, cleaning, kid care, bills, appointments, work, and the list goes on! While identity is hard right now handling overwhelm and anxiety is hard right now as well. Let’s hold each other accountable for seeking peace and calm in the right places.
To start, the heavenly Father who shaped your purpose and identity craves time with you, and he’d love nothing more than to hold all of your worries and stresses for you. Seek him first! Further down the ladder of importance, are you being a good steward of your physical body and health right now? Feeling well rested, eating whole foods, and moving your body are amazing ways to naturally boost your outlook on life and increase your capacity to handle life’s demands. Don’t overlook these strategies, and don’t put them last on your to-do list. You deserve to feel good!
Finally, re-evaluate your current station in life. It might be tempting to want to re-invent yourself or your life situation but give God time to lead you there if it’s supposed to happen. In the meantime, renew your commitment to serve those in your immediate sphere of influence with a new burst of energy. You might not like where you are, but God needs you there – and so do I. We’re beautifully designed to be interdependent, so don’t ever forget that you’re needed! God knows that you’re the only one who could serve the people in your life the way that you can – you are chosen!
So why do I care about you? Because you have a role to play – a divine purpose to fulfill. So, get after it today, knowing your Father in heaven goes before you! How’s that for an identity boost?
