Do Not Worry: You Have a Mission

ree

Hello, dear child of God! Remember this new identity we talked about last week? It’s the key to unlock the process of shedding your worry. As a child of God, you are loved, you are redeemed, and you are held. But you’re also the recipient of a calling on your earthly life – you have a mission.

The first part of your mission is to receive your set of instructions. (If anyone is flashing back to Mission Impossible, I’m with you, but I won’t make anything self-destruct.) You should know now that your primary instructions are not to worry or be afraid! Uncertainty is guaranteed. Challenges will come your way. Life will be hard. But listen to your instructions and stay in the game because the world needs you.

Indeed, the second part of your mission is to be who God made you to be in service to the world. In my Leadership and Communication college course, we spend some time talking about vocation in the life of a leader. In nearly every student reflection paper, they express uncertainty, fear, and urgency surrounding their life’s purpose (and major, and relationships, and job, and grades, etc.) Everyone worries about life purpose!

But take heart! As I assure my students, so I will tell you: God holds your unique purpose and will absolutely not waste the fact that he pulled all of your DNA, your cells, your joints and ligaments, your personality, your gifts, and your passions together at just the right time in history to have the impact that you were destined for. He needs YOU. He needs YOU now, and he needs you to NOT worry that he made a mistake. YOU ARE CHOSEN.

Before you keep reading, please read that previous paragraph again. Just do it.

Dear child of God and dear mission recipient, rejoice in this new identity and find comfort in knowing that you are here for a reason! You have a Purposeful Heart! Next week, I’ll expand our conversation to what that purpose looks like when your identity is found in Christ. Until then, keep your eyes wide open to the opportunities you have to serve, bless, lead, teach, and care for the people that God has put in your life. This is your mission, and I pray you choose to accept it.
